Re: Another "unable to obtain hardware info..." problem
Ok, not having the P: drive (TrueCrypt encrypted volume) mounted at the time the converter was examining the running system seems to have been the answer. Even though I never intended for the converter...

I have addressed this issue once before and thought the problem was that ports were not opened. I am trying to use Converter Standalone from my Windows 7 domain computer to convert a physical windows...

Attached are verbose logs while trying to convert a running machine (Windows 7 Pro N 64-bit) while a TrueCrypt encrypted volume is mounted. Seems to crash the worker service. Hope this helps you...

Attached. Also boot.ini. Not included here, but earlier I thought the partition(2) might be a problem, so I also tried replacing boot.ini with the attached boot.ini.change, and not including the...

Hmmm dual boot configurations are not supported by Converter. In your case - try to delete boot.ini and run conversion again.
View ArticleRe: FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.
Okay, that is running now. So, the idea is that Converter will generate a new boot.ini and MBR to go with it for the VM?
View ArticleRe: FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.
In case of Win7 the BCD is proper boot configuration that will be modified, in case of WinXP the boot.ini will be modified.Lets wait you reconfig phase... (yn)

So... the original MBR will be used? Isn't that what currently points to BCD?
View ArticleRe: FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.
Yes, the original MBR willl be used, but active Windows is detected and preserved from BCD and registry configuration.

To clarify: ide disk(0) is 1:dell partition 2:XPide disk(1) is 1:Win 7 When the machine boots on its own, it goes into the BCD screen, not the boot.ini screen. There *are* BCD files in a directory...

View ArticleRe: FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.
Okay. FINALLY successful. I ended up using ms-sys on sysreccd to write an XP MBR to disk(0). Surprisingly, that does not automatically revert the system to boot in "plain-old" XP boot.ini mode. After...

That's why the Converter do not support dual(multi) boot configurations... however if you select volume(s) and disk(s) from one OS instance and manipulating BCD/boot.ini there is a good chance to...
