I've install Converter 6.0 on XP SP3, obviously older versions are not supported.
You can try to find Converter 4 but there is no guarantee to work too.

No way to preserve snapshots with Converter.
You can copy VMDK files manually to keep snapshot(s).

Thanks for the feedback, POCEH. I did try just copying the vmdk files over, but no joy there either. ESXi won't boot the vm because it keeps saying there's a file missing (even though I copied the entire tree over). I think I may just have to recreate the tree in ESXi since I can't even import these vm's using Converter with or without snapshots, I just get an error "A file I/O error occurred while accessing "."
Yes, there is a caveat - edit VMX file and reroute file paths. This should be enough.

Hello Everyone, Just a query. Is VMware Converter Standalone 6.0 support Physical Linux System with GFS2 (Global File System) P2V Convention into VMDK?
What is the source OS type? GFS won't be preserved, the volume will become ext3.
Many Thank you Peevs.
OS is RHEL 6.3 x64. We are planning to P2V migrate of only one physical node (active node) of a 2 (two) node Linux cluster group.
3 mount point of this Linux Cluster is from SAN Storage LUN and as in GFS file system.
VM Converter 6.0
vCenter 5.5u3
ESXi 5.5u3
So VM Converter 6.0 can migrate GFS file system? Will GFS volume automatically migrate to EXT3 (it is nice if it become ext3)?
Hi everyone, i am using vcenter 5.5
I have a windows 2003 physical server, i need to convert it to virtual machine.
I have downloaded vmware standalone converter
After converting will it ask for windows activation
I want to come up with same hostname and same ip will i face issues
After converting i will shutdown physical machine and start virtual machine will it ask me
to rejoin to domain. Will it create any issues with the application related to DNS.
I have a storage drive connected to it. i need that drive will it convert it.
do i need to remove network cards or anything while converting.
Any Suggestion Please?
Yes, you'll need to reactivate the Windows because almost all of your hardware has changed.
You can setup an old IP for new VM but there is no way to resolve IP conflicts in case two machines are running...
You can try to join to domain in 'Customization' page.

I have SAN drive mapped to it. with vmware converter will it pick up the drive
Hi,
It is requested by my manager to perform a P2V of a Windows 7 workstation running OEM license.
After the P2V, windows license is not genuine and need another license key to reactivate (We have done this part).
Then we run SYSPREP but we get a fatal error. We just wonder whether it would be a problem if we use the VM (i.e. P2V one) and physical workstation running Windows 7 for a while (Both of them have been joined to AD) ? Do we need to remove the physical workstation from AD as SYSPREP fails ?
Thanks
It's depends of what the error is - if fail is about domain add because of same name/credentials - probably you should change the name or disconnect original machine.
Check for sysprep error(s) in C:\Windows\Panther\setuperr.log and C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Panther\setuperr.log

I have already changed the name of the VM (Different from the physical one).
The error message is "A fatal error occurred while trying to sysprep the machine".
I have also followed the steps listed here but still no good
Thanks again.
Hi
I'm trying to convert a fusion VM running 32bit linux to run on my ESXi 6 server ... the conversion seems to go ok but the converted VM doesn't boot - i'm getting a call stack dump on the OS boot screen, which I can't figure out as I can't scroll up on that to see what blew up.
I did notice however, when I was in the conversion wizard, a warning: 'the destination guest os cannot be reconfigured' which I suspect may have something to do with it.
Any ideas where to go from here?
TIA
Hi
Please could you post additional info like:
- Guest OS and version
- screenshot about stack dump
- a screenshot or description about virtual hardware
In some cases, changing virtual disk controller type could solve boot problem...
screen dump is attached
Q: is there a way to route the OS boot output to a file? Because it scrolls by so fast and once it blows up I can't scroll back up from this stack dump to see what was going on...
the fusion VM is running 32bit CentOS 6.3
disk controller SCSI
Ok,
about controller: which SCSI controller? Buslogin, LSI Logic Parallel, LSI logic SAS, VMware paravirtual... Could you post a screenshot about virtual hardware? Did you resize vmdks?
Sometimes the sysprep is not working as expected because of many different reasons - why you don't try to do customization steps manually?
not sure what you are asking for ... when i go into settings in the fusion VM (before conversion) all I see are 3 options 'SCSI, IDE, SATA) .. I'm set to SCSI
two other very similar VMs converted just fine but this one ... no ....
if I could figure out how to see the linux boot log before it blows up I might be able to figure this out but there is no scroll bar on the VM window....
