Re: the destination guest os cannot be reconfigured
Re: P2V of a Windows 7 OEM Workstation
I also don't want to spend time on SYSPREP but my colleague would like to get both physical and VM running. Though the VM is connected to Domain, some fellows say that sooner or later, my colleague will have permission problems and the problem will come back to me.
On the other hand, besides changing Computer Name, joining Domain, is there any other steps I have missed out?
Thanks again.

Converting V2V Error
I am trying to do a V2V conversion from a 5.5 Host to a temp 5.5 Host. Everytime I convert the machine it gets to 15% and fails with the message "FAILED: A general system error occurred: TaskInfo indicates error but no exception is specified." I've tried reviewing the logs but not really anything sticking out to me. I have attached those to this thread. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated!

What could I do to resolve this? Thank you!
Re: Convert physical machine to virtual machine
is source powered UP or Down?
during selection of Drives to copy , make sure to check "DONOT copy page file" ( I forget the correct phrase).

Re: Converting V2V Error
Hello,
What version of converter are we using?
What is the machine that we are converting? The Guest OS and it's version
Is the converter installed locally on the vCenter machine or a remote machine?

VMWare Converter 3.0.3 Giving "Unable to determine guest operating system" on Windows 2000 SP4
On a Windows 2000 SP4 server, I am running VMWare Converter 3.0.3 and select the "Physical machine" as the source. VMWare scans the disk and gives "Unable to determine Guest Operating System" and refuses to go further.
What is VMWare Converter looking at to determine the target OS? If I knew this I could look for permissions issues. Are there any workarounds for this condition?
Re: VMWare Converter 3.0.3 Giving "Unable to determine guest operating system" on Windows 2000 SP4
Hi, as a workaround, you could try cold cloning... this means that a CD with a converter version must be written and server must be offline.
Check documentation https://www.vmware.com/pdf/VMware_Converter_manual303.pdf (CAP 5) to build CD and proceed with conversion.
Re: VMWare Converter 3.0.3 Giving "Unable to determine guest operating system" on Windows 2000 SP4
Cold clone CD for 3.0.3 gives the exact same error. It is unable to determine guest operating system.
Re: VMWare Converter 3.0.3 Giving "Unable to determine guest operating system" on Windows 2000 SP4
Hi,
FWIW, discussion moved from Workstation Pro to VMware Converter Standalone as you'll likely get better answers here.
I can see that with an old operating system you are using an old converter product, but have you tried using Converter 6.0 at all?

Re: VMWare Converter 3.0.3 Giving "Unable to determine guest operating system" on Windows 2000 SP4
3.0.3 is one of the last releases that still supports Windows 2000. 6.0 would fail immediately with a message saying it doesn't support that OS.
Re: VMWare Converter 3.0.3 Giving "Unable to determine guest operating system" on Windows 2000 SP4
Hi,
Ok, didn't know that the recent Converter does not support Windows 2000 anymore.
You're already on SP4 or I would have suggested to run the SP4 update.
If converter doesn't work then you might have to resort to a disk imaging solution like Norton Ghost or a system backup and restore to virtual.

VMware converter failure - 91% ever time. - Can't find the cause
Hi
I'm hoping someone can help me out with this problem.
I'm in the process of migration of our Hyper-V 2012R2 enviroment to an new vSphere 6 installation, and it is going fine.
So far I have used VMware converter to migrate more than 40 VM, without any problems...
But now, I'm having huge problems with some of the VM that I'm trying to migrate.
In total I have so far 4 VM that I can't migrate.
They all have the following in commen:
OS: Server 2008 R2
Language: Danish
Roles: Remote Desktop Service
Disk size: 300 - 700GB
The migrate seems to starts fine, and are running for an couple of hours, until I get to 91%.
Then it stops, and comes with the following error: FAILED: A general system error occurred:
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
After the migration have stop, the VM are not working properly for me. I can't start any programs on the VM, and not even reboot it.
I have to power it off, and on again, to have it back online.
The OS have been updated with all the Windows patches, that I can install. I have run checkdisk, and done some cleanup of the discs.
Can anyone help me with this problem, so that I can continue to migrate my VM to VMware.
In the 40 VM that I have migrated so far, are alots of the same VM types as these 3, and there was no problems with these.
Thanks
Allan R. Larsen

Probably this is all you want to change besides the IP/Network configuration.

Re: Converting V2V Error
Your error is (repeatedly):
2015-12-31T10:56:54.534-06:00 warning vmware-converter-worker[21500] [Originator@6876 sub=Default] [,0] [NFC ERROR] The operation was cancelled -- NfcFile_Stream: Server cancelled receive
2015-12-31T10:56:54.534-06:00 warning vmware-converter-worker[21500] [Originator@6876 sub=Default] [,0] [NFC ERROR] Nfc_GetPutFile: Error inside NfcFile_Stream
The concrete problem could be found in server's logs but you can try to disable SSL and try the conversion again (just a guess).
