Retaining IP details after shrinking disk Windows 2012
Hi,
Sorry if I'm being stupid but I cannot seem to find an answer
I have a Windows 2012 server that has a primary partition of 60GB and I would like to shrink this to 40GB using the converter tool. The disk shrinks without issue and creates a second VM, but is there a way of retaining the network information on the new server or is this not possible
Re: Retaining IP details after shrinking disk Windows 2012
Hi,
Use customization. It's in advanced options, post-conversion.

Converter Job failing trying to copy live system.
I'm trying to copy a live Centos 5 system to a new ESX environment in order to upgrade it. I'm using ESXi 6.0.0 and the standalone converter 6.0.0 build=2716716. I create the job to copy the system, and it runs a while and then fails with the message A General System error occurred: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
Why would the machine the tool creates refuse the connection to transfer data. I've done some google searches on this and most everything I've found points to a network misconfiguration. I've manually set the ip address of the ESXi system and the new system, so I'm not using DHCP to get addresses.
Re: Converter Job failing trying to copy live system.
Have a look at p.27 in the user's guide (Ports Used When Converting a Powered On Machine Running Linux) and also at p. 13 for a visual representation explaining why.

Re: P2V with Converter standalone 5.5 - Permission to perform this operation denied
Hello,
it seems i have the same problem, have you solved it ?
Thanks,

Re: "An error occurred during the conversion: 'Block level cloning does not support shrinking volumes'
Unfortunately there is an error with LDM volumes placed on MBR disks, in short we try to create destination MBR disk but in this case it can't hold such big data (18TB -> 2TB). We should fix this in feature version.
You can convert only system and "E:" LDM volume with Converter. For "F:" LDM volume - you need to create new disk in VM and transfer data with Windows copy command.
If this can't work for you, then data could be transferred from F: to E: volume and then converted (even with single volume transfer with fake VM, and then move and attach new volume to the VM).

Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine
What kind of machine you try to convert? Do you try to convert *running* VM to another place? This is not possible - in this case your VM should be powered off.

Hi,
thanks to take time for my problem.
I'm trying to convert my running machine (where i installed Converter) to a VM.

Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine
The strange thing is that Converter (in worker-50.log) try to convert disks which are Linux...
For live Linux machines there is other conversion path - select PoweredOn machine, type Linux and convert it.
Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine
please see attached file
Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine
i will try now
Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine
no option for linux machine if i choose "This local machine"
Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine
they might be some hiddem partition on that disk, i will cherck this and get back to you
Thanks
Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine
Yes, only Windows for 'this local machine' see User's Manual

Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine
i did run Gparted who shows 2 disks: SDA for Windows and SDB for a recover disk of 8gb but none of the three linux partitions as shown in the log file, strange indeed.

I wonder if the partition table is corrupted .. ?
Re: Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine
It works with converter 5.0.1
Might be a bug of version 6
Thank for help anyway
