Re: Can't Upgrade vmware Converter StandAlone to newest version on XP laptop
Vmware Converter fails with Network Failed
Hi there,
we have the following situation.
We have a Stratus Avance Aplliance which currently holds the virtual Machines.
This Appliance is in core a Xen Server.
We now want to move to vmware and are trying to move the vms from that appliance to vmware.
For that we use a P2V Conversion with the VMWare Converter Standalone Version 6.
Unfortunately the Conversion aborts with beeing unable to block level Clone the volumes.
THe Log itself says:
Sysimgbase_DiskLib_Write failed with 'NBD_ERR_NETWORK_CONNECT' (error code:2338)
After doing some research i found a few tips to handle that.
One said to convert the physical volumes seperately.
That failded too.
THe other said to check the firewall.
Firewall on Windows Host ist deactivated and the ports on the ESXI 6.0 are open.
The Servers are connected to the same switch.
Any ideas?
With kind Regards
Sascha
Re: Vmware Converter fails with Network Failed
Could you upload log bundle to check?
Re: Can't Upgrade vmware Converter StandAlone to newest version on XP laptop
thanks for the info, I read through the link and made sure it was running XP SP3 and it is. Which it wasn't a problem installing it, I need to uninstall it.

Try to reboot and then uninstall. HTH
P2V SQL Cluster (No need for MSCS)
Hi,
I'm looking for any advice on the plan below.
I would like to P2V one of the SQL cluster nodes and the virtual resource in an environment where MSCS is no longer required as the server will be decommissioned in a few months. All the research I've done on the subject suggests it's possible but not recommended which I'm fine with as it's only a temporary solution. Breaking the cluster is a possibility but I'd like to make as few changes as possible to the physical servers in case roll back is required.
Building a new VM and migrating SQL is not viable as this cluster serves as a master to some 20 SQL server replicas. Re-initiating replication to all servers down stream is not an option.
Ideally, I would like all the disks to end up as VMDK's on a datastore. There is no need for RDM disks etc as mentioned above.
Thanks.
P2V SCO UNIX
Hi,
I must converter a server SCO Unix from physical to virtual machines.
The server is version 3.2 and release 5.0.6 i386 for 30 users.
Has someone already done?
Thanks
Michele
Re: P2V SCO UNIX
Hi Michelle,
VMware Converter does not convert SCO.
You may look for other solutions or try to migrate manually. If you choose the latter, this post describes how Linux is being converted and might help:

Yeah of Course.

Issues loading new vm
Hi Everyone,
I have successfully copied a ubuntu live machine into a virtual machine using the standalone converter but I am just getting a black screen when I try to load it, i can go into the recovery mode and load the command line but trying to start the computer or start the graphical interface it just doesn't show anything.
I have tried updating drivers removing drivers etc to no avail.
Anyone have any tips/ideas to try to get it loading?
Thanks!
Re: "An error occurred during the conversion: 'Block level cloning does not support shrinking volumes'
Did you ever get a solution to this? i am having the same problem.
Re: "An error occurred during the conversion: 'Block level cloning does not support shrinking volumes'
Ouch, you can't! Block-level cloning keeps files "position", which is not possible when you shrink the volume... Is it better explained now?
Re: "An error occurred during the conversion: 'Block level cloning does not support shrinking volumes'
Yes but I am not shrinking the volume, i am just converting it to eliminate 2 volumes of many spanned disks. 2 of 3 volumes work as expected, but the 3rd gives me this error even though i am not shrinking it.
Re: Unable to find supported boot loader
swchayden -
Are you attempting to convert using a user with sudo? If yes, have you tried to convert using root instead, and does it give the same error?
Re: "An error occurred during the conversion: 'Block level cloning does not support shrinking volumes'
This is strange - if the message is 'Block level cloning does not support shrinking volumes' then the change in volume size is detected... Could you upload log-bundle?
Re: Issues loading new vm
Hi,
Have a look at this release note: VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Release Notes
Hopefully it might help.

Re: Unable to find supported boot loader
Hello, i'm having the same problem, even with the root user.
I'm trying to convert a live suse 10 machine
Server 2003 error on boot "0xC0002E1"
I ran VMware converter to convert our 2003 server to a VM so I can test a Sharepoint upgrade however when I go to boot it up I get the following error
"Security Accounts Manager initialization failed because of the following error: Directory Services cannot start. Error Status 0xC00002e1 - Please click OK to shutdown this system and reboot into directory services restore mode, check the event log for more detailed info."
Not sure how I can get past this. Should I try to run the converter again or will I run into the same issue? Not sure if the error is on the windows end or VMware side. Also to add to this, that used to be our Domain Controller but recently migrated everything to a new server.
Re: Server 2003 error on boot "0xC0002E1"
This is definitely a Windows error. Google for the error code/message, you'll probably get something meaningful.

Re: Unable to find supported boot loader
What is the machine's boot loader - GRUB or LILO?
Take into account Converter works only with GRUB. If your machine is with GRUB, please upload the worker log for examination.
