Re: Standalone Converter 6.1.1 Error 29141 during install on Windows 7 Pro

Two Possible reasons for this issue ..

1. Either pending reboot

2. Conflict with existing Driver or version of VMware Converter

You may try the following ...

1. Reboot the Machine and retry the installation

2, If there is already an existing version of Converter installed, try to uninstall the VMware Converter, reboot the machine and install VMware Converter 6.1.1

let us know how it goes ..

@camero - you hit the target. a version of starwind's converter was installed on the workstation. removed it and relaunched the vmw standalone converter install. install completed without issue. cheers!

its good to stop any services which creates new data during p2v so you don't have to do sync. e.g. any DB services, application.

Thanks for the reply but we're looking to do this Hot. If it is not possible, that is fine.

Hi,

I have tried to contact vmWare by email, but no answer on any of my emails.
I need download link for old version of the software 5.0.x or 4.3, but on the download section can only download 5.5 version, which doesnt work with Windows XP.
Any idea where to download it?

Thanx in advance.

Hi,

5.5 works with XP. It is not officially supported but, if I am not mistaken, so is 5.0.

The error is exactly what it reads. There is no route from the destination VM to the source host. Possibly because 10.x.x.x is a private network. Use an address visible from the destination.

with version 5.5 and XP (no any SP), the installation is terminated without any error codes.

according of the support documentation I should have at least SP3 installed.

also command lind installation and command line agent installation is terminating without error codes.

With a version 5.0, prequisities are no any installed SP.

My goal is not to upgrade or touch to the OS system files to get the job done.

You have described various details but left out the most important question - have the conversion been successful?

Oh, sorry about that, I thought it was too obivious. I havent succeed with the convercion.
I cant finish Standalone nor the agent installation form gui nor command line, where the next step would be the conversion to an image.
The Installation wizard will give following error message: “The wizard was interrupted before VMware Converter could be completely installed.  The system has not been modified.  To install this program at later time, run the installation again.”

@I had the same issue but I was trying to connect to a DC we were trying to image for testing purposes. The only thing that worked was to enable our default administrator account for the domain which was disabled and then use that to login for VM Ware converter once we used that account it worked where no other account worked.got it installed then disable the account again. hope that helps someone else.

Changing Disk Cluster Size with VM-Converter

Morning all

We are likely going to be replacing our storage environment with one supplied by a new vendor.

Our current Vendor has a recommended Cluster size of 4k. So all our VMDKs are configured with a 4K cluster, size happy days.

The new vendor we are investigating however recommends 8k.

So I've been considering v2v`ing our server estate to the new platform, modifying the block size in the advanced features tab of VM-converter in the process giving us system's formatted with 8K blocks.

There is however an MS Requirement that the System drive remains at 4k (otherwise it wont power on). Its that pesky little 100Mb partition..

Now comes the rub;

The 100mb System partition, forms part of the first Disk ( C:\ ). If I P2V the first disk with a cluster size of 8k I of course get a non-bootable server.

When in fact I actually want to v2v Disk 1 ( C:\ ). As 8kb but leave the little 100Mb system partition alone with its default of 4kb, However because they form part of the same disk, and converter seems to work at the disk level and not the Partition level, Converter just wants to do them all which is a problem.

Any ideas on how to accomplish the above...

Cheers

P

4K and 8K are about *cluster* size, not the sector size or other size.

And cluster size is about volumes, not for disks nor for partitions, and could be mixed for different volumes on same disk.

So go ahead and test if boot process will succeed with system volume on 4K and active volume on 8K.

Sure they may indeed be mixed, this is exactly what I'm trying to achieve.

But changing the cluster size for a disk during the v2v adjusts the cluster size for all associated volumes within that disk.

Not good when a cluster size above 4k for the system partition will render a system un-bootable.

This seems to be Windows issue, but you can convert with default cluster size and after that change the cluster size with some tool like minitool.

Hello everyone,

I have the same problem today and fixing an IP address during the conversion process have solved my problem.

The address must be different and unuse in the network.
