Permission Denied P2V Clone Operation, Can
Permission Denied P2V Clone Operation, Not Getting Started.
Greetings,
I’m attempting to use VMware Converter Stand Alone 6.0 to clone my Windows 7 SP1 image running native on a standard PC (not a laptop).
I want to copy the W7 image to my MacBook Pro running Fusion 7.0
When I launch the VMware Converter program on the W7 machine I get a message about ‘Permission is Denied” and can’t do anything else.
I have given the program all the security I can, “Full Control” and still nogo. The user running the program has full Administrative Control.
I have no idea what to do next to resolve this issue. Can you help?
Thanks
Re: Permission Denied P2V Clone Operation, Not Getting Started.
First you can use latest Converter 6.1, second to convert 'this local machine' you need to run GUI as administrator.

Re: VMWare Converter: (A file I/O error occurred while accesssing ". )
Even I used IP to connect to vcenter. It still show this error.
But I changed the DNS at NIC. Then it can RUN !!!
But I still don't know why relate to DNS.

Re: Failed convert physical Centos machine to VM
The line from the log
Copying files from 192.168.0.17:/home to /mnt/p2v-src-root/home
means the conversion has been including /home volume. The next step would be to try the conversion w/o it.
Please tell me what is the next step how to resolve this issue.
It seems there is some misunderstanding here. This forum is for assistance with unusual situations like that with the /home volume. It is not for step-by-step guiding.

P.S.
By the way I have asked you to check the source filesystem for corruption. What is the result?
Job is failed on 54% on Starting file-level cloning for volume
My job was failed with error:
FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'File-level volume clone error failed with sourcevolume id \WindowsBitmapDriverVolumeId=[44-4D-49-4F-3A-49-44-3A-0F-59-44-EC-5F-BB-40-4A-B3-6A-C0-21-24-9B-6C-FF] and target volume id 44=494?4:39444:3?09544<.?5;+04:43+:60,1242;)<6?/. Error code:
225'
It was happened when I try to create image of my system harddrive to usb-cnnected harddrive
Please, help me, becouse I can't understand what's happened.
Thanks!
P.S.: I use VMWare vCenter Converter Standalone.

Converting a backup
I just upgraded to version 6.10 and I don't see anymore the option to convert a backup: am I missing any relevant step while installing and configuring VMware Converter?
Should I use a different tool?
I need to convert a backup made using Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery version 2010 or 2013

Re: Remove Broadcom Team Adapter after a conversion
What do you mean by conversion? If you are talking about an in place upgrade if windows it it a stupid process of taking ownership, then adding permissions, deleting the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ROOT\BRCM_**** registry key. Do not try to apply your ownership to all sub directories either, it will not work.

Xen VM to VMware Migration with out and Downtime
Hi All,
We have built VMware (ESXi 6) Infrastructure in our company, We have around 500+ VM's in Xen infrastructure which need to be migrated to the new VMware infra. After going through many blogs I came to know we can migrate the VM but I need to know the answers for the below questions.
1) Can you suggest me how to migrate Xen VM to VMware step by step process?
2) Do we have any free tools or need to purchase any license?
3) We have VMware vRealize operations 6 Advanced licensed version with us, Will it help us to migrate the VM's?
4) If possible can you guys share any video link (Xen Vm to VMware migration)
Thanks in advance.
Re: Converting a backup
Hi there,
Looks like this was quietly dropped - perhaps you could re-install VMware Converter 5.5.2 as this was still an option with this version:VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Release Notes
Kind regards.
Re: Converting a backup
You should use 5.5 for 3rd party backups. However I'm not sure your Symantec version are supported, check manual about this.

Re: Xen VM to VMware Migration with out and Downtime
Converter can help you to migrate Xen machines to ESX, you need to convert them as powered on sources with no downtime. Make sure your sources are not para virtualized.
You can download and use Converter for free: VMware vCenter Converter: P2V Virtual Machine Converter | United States

Network throttling
The converter allows you to throttle network usage by 'MBps'.
Does anyone know what this actually stands for?
One would expect this to be Mega Bytes per second (capital B for bytes, small B for bits).
However, I suspect it's some other flavor, as a setting of 10 yields about 5mbit/s and a setting of 100 yields 60mbit/s.
TL;DR
VMWare get your units right, please.
Re: Network throttling
It's correct - MegaByte per second or more precise MiB.

SLES 11 Xen VM to VMware
Hello,
at the moment we migrate our vm´s from citrix xenserver to vmware and use the converter.
This worked well with some debian linux and some fixing.
We also have two SLES 11 vm´s we need to migrate, but after conversion there is no chance to boot them.
Tried with live cd to check and fix fstab, devices and chroot to repair grub without any success.
Has someone experience with this, or advice ?
Thanks.
Re: SLES 11 Xen VM to VMware
Hello
Is it a machine with paravirtual kernel? If so - it won't boot in VMware environment; you'll need to replace the kernel.
What happens when you boot it? Is there any error or it is completely black screen?
Regards,
Plamen
Re: SLES 11 Xen VM to VMware
Is it a machine with paravirtual kernel?
Yes, correct, both machines use the following kernel.
Linux hostname 3.0.101-68-xen #1 SMP Tue Dec 1 16:21:37 UTC 2015 (ed01a9f) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
you'll need to replace the kernel.
I know and tried this already. Before migration i installed the none xen kernel via yast.
When i switch kernel after migration it won´t work, blank screen.
Another option i didn´t tried yet is to use the recovery procedure from the iso image, i will try this out.
