Did you try run the vCenter Converter from inside the guest OS that you want convert ? Name resolution is working ? You're pointing to vCenter Server or directly to vSphere ESXi host ?

You need access from HyperV server to ESX at port 902, check User's Manual for port settings.

If your HyperV is 2012 - it's not supported for converting powered off machines.

The network adapters are recreated during conversion, do you have any other information?

They do not contain the ethernet1.pciSlotNumber, that makes vmware create the adapter with a new slot number (Specially for E1000 adapters) windows re-create the adapter then as it belongs to a new slot on the PCI bus.

That means we cant really do V2V conversions as we need to re-create the network card settings on most adapters, making the migration somewhat cumbersome.

Hi,

I have the same problem but i found a solution

You start Convertor Agent service AS administrateur and not AS système (in french because Windows is in french)

There is no special character in administrateur so there is no problem

The conversion must be done from the running OS, as this is what you want to bring along. There is no point in converting it at the Hyper-V level, as there is no functions or features there that you will bring along.

yep, have been migrating many like this for some time now. (600+ VMs)

My point is,, it would be a nice "feature" to have that "full" view of all systems running on the hyper-v servers from converter.  Not that it is technically needed, I just liked it.

i had the same problem on an hp probook 6560b.  given the bsod on first boot that looked like a problem with the the keyboard driver, i decided to have a look at it in the device manager - it appeared to be an hp-proprietary one to enable the app-specific buttons at the top of the keyboard (like the calculator).  in the device manager, i "uninstalled" the keyboard (and checked the box to uninstall the driver for it too), and upon converting after that, i had no problems getting the vm to boot up.  hope this helps!

V2V for DC - Windows 2008 R2

Hello, I am planning to V2V (as part of the datacentre migration) a Windows 2008 R2 domain controller (DC) to new datacentre. As it’s not best practice to convert/ clone domain controller, I am stopping all AD related services and doing the V2V conversion.  When V2V finishes, I power on target VM, connect the network and start the services. We have other live domain controllers in the network.

As I am stopping the AD services, I am assuming that server is down from AD point of view. Is it right assumption?

Do you see any issues? Appreciate your thoughts on this.

I can’t use cold clone. OVF method or parallel DC build and migrate roles for some other reasons. I have no access to source vCenter server.

Cheers!!

I know its a little more of a pain but I would just spin up a new Dc and let it replicate.

I do disaster recovery and taking over the FSMO roles at DR site I have found the best and cleanest way with out issue. V2V works but has not been a 100% all the time if you have other DC in your environment.

Hi All VMware Expert,

I want to ask about the supported vCenter Converter Standalone version to convert the Guest OS Novell Netware 3.12 from VMware Workstation 8 to VMware ESXi 5.0.

Is the Converter support to doing migrate v2v from the backup full folder of Guest OS Novell Netware 3.12 running on VMware Workstation 8 to VMware ESXi 5.0 ?

Because on the my customer still use the Guest OS for Production Environment.

Anybody experience with this OS (Novell Netware 3.12) ?

Thanks.

Use Converter for automated P2V conversions?

$

Hello all! This is my first post - I created account to ask this Q.

Is it possible to automate P2V process using VmVare converter?

The idea is to use VmWare Converter as a contingency. I would have it create immediately runnable virtual machine, in case hardware disaster occurs (RAID field dies, etc.)

I was looking at the program itself, but it seems it lacks command line options. - I did noticed, however, that it has different mode of operation: client-server one.

Can someone help in regard to this Q?

Thank you.

Hi,

You can run the vcenter converter to convert the physical machine to an esxi as vm.but it is not recommended to use as DR option, there are software avaliable to do your needs..like acronis is the one..you cak the back of physical machine as VM ...
