Confirming the 'yes'. There's one thing you should be aware of - ESX 5.0 does not support hardware version 9. Though there is generally no problems downgrading the hardware version of a VM, there might be if the VM is using some new feature/limitation that is not supported in hwv8. So check for that beforehand.
