I am connecting VMWare converter as the root user.

I am getting the error as cannot communicate with the remote host, either due to network errors or because the host is not responding.

I get chop wood, carry water in console after login.

i propose you use static ip for vm helper and after start convert ping vm helper if could ping vm helper ip

you don't have network problem otherwise that is network problem

Hi I would like to ask for your assistance to what causes this issue that I encountered.

My Goal for doing this is to shrink the Hard disk size since some of the spaces on the VMWare is not being used and I wanted to used the spaces on that specific VM to other VM instance, I tried looking for a way to do this and found out about this VMware vCenter Converter Standalone. The issue is this one, when I try to perform configure machine and select the instances that I wanted to reconfigure I end up encountering an error "Reconfiguration is not supported for the selected source.

You can select a powered on Linux machine to convert. The source machine can be a physical or virtual machine.

You can convert powered on machines that run Linux only if GRUB is installed as the boot loader on the source. LILO boot loader is not supported.

Prerequisites

Before you continue with the conversion, you must prepare the source Linux machine.

Enable SSH on the source Linux machine.
Make sure that you use the root account or account with sudo privileges for all commands to convert a powered on Linux machine.
Make sure that the Converter Standalone server machine has network access to the Linux source machine.
Make sure that no other conversion job is using the source you select.

Select Remote Linux machine from the drop down menu.

Provide the IP address or DNS name and select authentication method. Provide the IP address or DNS name and root credentials for the Linux machine you want to convert.

For exact problem you should look at worker.log, if the machine is Linux one - you can't do this.

From the other hand conversion of whole machine is expensive way to shrink disk(s), try disk management inside ESX.

Versuche ich die Maschine von einem anderen Server zu virtualisieren erhalte ich die Fehlermeldung:

VMware Knowledge Base habe ich bereits getan.

Danach habe ich SSL in der coworker datei auf false gesellt

The remote machine is red hat 6.9 machine.

It is on the same network as the vcenter.

The process just gets stuck on 1%.

converter is the latest 6.2 Build

If the Helper VM appears and can't connect to *source* machine, verify the "VM Network" selected for Helper VM and connection possibility between HelperVM and source machine.

To anyone here from a Google search just trying to get Standalone converter to work - I found downloading version 6.0.0 avoids all of the issues above. There's a dropdown on the download page that lets you select the version.

I am not familiar with the Helper vm stuff, what do you mean when you say to verify the "VM Network".

You need connectivity between HelperVM and source Linux machine.

Hi All, Happy New year!

We are planning to migrate all the due to license issues(we are not planning to buy Xenserver License).

what are the steps need to be followed?

so far i have understood as below.

1. Install vCenter standard converter on source VM(Xen VM).

2. use V2V migration, and update the destination.

3. Power on the Destination VM once it is completed.

is there anything else i have to follow?

We have many servers(around 300vms) includes Linux VMs, what is the best options to perform the same with automation?

is there any Powercli scripts inplace for this?

there is a connection between the source machine and the vmhelper.

Can you upload the worker log to have a look? It can be found in "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\logs" on the converter server machine.
