Thank you Sir. I'll continue testing with the 6.1.1 version of Converter.
So far I've completed to conversions with the older version without any hick-ups.

Converter Server depends on LanmanWorkstation service, you can check registry at location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vmware-converter-server\DependOnService.
Two possible solutions - (better) restore your LanmanWorkstation, it could be stopped because of wannacry but it is simpler to remove just MRxSmb10 from LanmanWorkstation service.
And second - remove dependency from Converter Server, however this could lead to other problems with networking.

P.S. After dependency manipulations you'll need to restart computer.
[Note: I discovered question is probably more appropriate to Home> VMTN> VMware vCenter™> Converter Standalone. forum, but unable to figure out to move it so created a duplicate post in that forum.]
I am a first time user. Please let me know if this would be better posted elsewhere. Thank you.
I attempted to install VMware vCenter Standalone Client ver. 6.2 on my Dell 8700 PC running Windows 8.1. I selected to do a local install only. The install failed with an error something like "The service could not be started."
I tried to remove installation, reboot, and install again. Same problem.
It seemed to finish installing so I am able to start the application. But I get the following error message:
I go to the services control panel and the server service is not running
When I try to manually start it, I get the following error:
When I look at the dependencies, there are none:
Please help!
Thank you for the reply. It is a bit beyond my technical ability to follow your suggestions, but will try to research and post with additional questions.. In particular, not sure how to "remove MRxSmb10 from LanmanWorkstation service." All of that is Greek to me.
Then go to easiest way - start regedit.exe navigate to Converter Server, delete or rename its key named DependOnService, exit regedit and restart computer.

Hi Plemen,
i already try to test telnet, PING
Clinet converter -> Host
Clinet converter -> My server
My Server -> Host
My Server -> Clinet Converter
Host -> My Server
Host -> Client Converter
and all the result is OK, no lost packet for long time
my Host Esxi 6.5 using 2 NIC to vswitch Management redundant,
i don't use specific route cause all in same switch
any idea ?
Hi Khaiims,
I am not sure what exactly 'my server' and 'host' mean, i suppose these are the source machine and the ESXi host.
The issue here is with the destination VM. It runs in a virtual VM network. I am also not sure I understand your network configuration, but virtual networks are different from the management network. If the destonation VM netowork is on the same vSwitch as the management network, then it should have an uplink. VLAN ids can also isolate a network.
An easy way to check is, if there is an existing VM in that VM network (where the converted one will be), to ssh the source from there.
HTH,
Plamen
It's been a while since I had to P2V convert a Linux system and do not see an option to Synchronize changes.
Is this available for Linux (Red Hat) ?
If not what are alternatives for synchronization
Synchronize is not available for *nix. You can try it yourself with rsync command in the way of Converter: create destination VM, power it from CD and do many as many rsync you want through ssh.
HTH
Kinda figured this would be the case but hoped not.
When you say power on from CD are you meaning Converter ISO or any Linux Live CD?
Thanks again
It will be easier to do the conversion, power on the converted VM, and sync it with the source (one or more times). Take into account that some system files must not be synced, e.g. grub config, the initr image, fstab and some other configuration files. Better sync only data files.
Thanks! Editing the registry file I could handle.
It gets slightly further and now gives me the error
when I try to manually start the service. I still get the first dialog box that says server is installed, but not running and so I go to start it manually.
I did restart the computer after editing the registry file.
That's why service depends on LanmanWorkstation one. Try to recover LanmanWorkstaton - see its start type and dependents, should looks like
Bowser
MRxSmb20
NSI
and check its start type - it must be between 0-3
I googled "recover lanmanWorkstation", but nothing helpful. Can you point me in the right direction as to how I'm supposed to recover it? Thanks.
A little update. I'm still getting VM conversions failed at 98% FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion:
'The session does not have the required permissions'
These issues seem to relate machines with ctk-files. We're using Netbackup and I've been testing with Veeam software as well. I read that these ctk-files might relate to backups.
I'm still looking for any tips troubleshooting this issue. As before, all help is appreciated.
Try this one: Lanmanworkstation not loading
HTH
Do you run GUI "as administrator"?
Yes, the converter runs "as admin" and I'm connecting to the host with local admin account.
Thanks again.
Took a look. Can't really make heads or tails out of it. Not sure it is relevant in any case. Seems to deal with 2008R2 server and doesn't appear as problem is solved.
