Is it possible to export the VM to an OVF and import this into ESXi?
Re: convert XenServer VM to ESX
Error: Unable to clone the volume mounted on '/' from '10.1.2.3'
I'm trying to setup a physical to virtual conversion using VMware vCenter Standalone Converter. I have a online debian server I'm trying to convert to a virtual on an ESXI 6.0 host. Go through the setup just fine, but every time I get to 3%, I get the discussion topic's error.
Was hoping to find some help with this as Im not familiar with Linux as an admin. My company took on this project to migrate away from another company's Linux server and, while I've accomplished that, I'd like to keep a virtualized clone of the machine in the event that I need some data or some such off of it in the future (as even the client does not seem to realize what it was utilized for). I've attached my logs. Any help would be appreciated.
How to Convert Virtual Machines from Hyper-V server to VMware ESXi using Vcenter Converter tools
Hi all,
I have Virtual machines in Hyper-V Server and I was planning to move the Virtual machine to VMware Esxi Server.
I have tried the Vcenter Converter tools, but I got an error as " The Version of the selected Microsoft Hyper-V Server is not supported. Select an earlier version of Microsoft Hyper-V server or another supported source type"
What should I do? Please help me to resolve it
Thanks in advance

Re: How to Convert Virtual Machines from Hyper-V server to VMware ESXi using Vcenter Converter tools
What is the version of Hyper-V and VM OS which you want to convert?
Try to use latest VMware Convert.
VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Release Notes
if still fails, select source Powered on machine as VM and convert it ( v2v).

Migration of SUSE Linux VMs from HyperV to ESXi
I have SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12.x virtual machines currently running from HyperV2012 R2, with UEFI Firmware Interface.
As per the VMWARE converter user guide, its not listed as supported. SLES 12 is not listed at all, and as for the UEFI in SLES 11 version itself is listed not supported in the userguide. Would that mean it would not support the offline migrations as well ?
any feedback is much appreciated.

Re: Error: Unable to clone the volume mounted on '/' from '10.1.2.3'
Hello,
The error is
2016-09-25T22:56:33.274Z error vmware-converter-helper[F303BB70] [Originator@6876 sub=task-1] '/bin/mount -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /mnt/p2v-src-root/' failed. Return code: 255; message:
--> mount: mounting /dev/sda1 on /mnt/p2v-src-root/ failed: Invalid argument
This is one of the strangest errors I've seen in Linux P2V. Currently I have no clue how 'mount' could fail. It should not.
Can you try the conversion again to see what happens?

Plamen

Re: How to Convert Virtual Machines from Hyper-V server to VMware ESXi using Vcenter Converter tools
Download Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 3.0 from Official Microsoft Download Center
I never tried it. there are many other convertor tools are available.

Re: Migration of SUSE Linux VMs from HyperV to ESXi
customer is using UEFI .... is this supported ?
i read somewhere in the userguide that only bios firmware interface is supported....
Re: Migration of SUSE Linux VMs from HyperV to ESXi
It is supported. The issue is with the boot loader. SLES 11 used to install GRUB on BIOS and ELILO on UEFI. Converter doesn't support (E)LILO. However SLES 12 switched to GRUB2 which is now used for both firmwares.

Re: Migration of SUSE Linux VMs from HyperV to ESXi
Let me warn you about something. Offline Linux migrations do not reconfigure the destination (the distro and version do not matter), there is a chance the VM won't boot. It is recommended to to a powered on conversion. It doesn't matter it is in Hyper-V, treat it as a physical machine.

Re: Virtual Machine convert from HyperV to VMware ESXi server using VCenter Converter tools
Hi
Can you check the versions of Converter Server and of Converter Agent installed on the Hyper-V server? If they differ, upgrade the older component.

Re: Migration of SUSE Linux VMs from HyperV to ESXi
Re: Migration of SUSE Linux VMs from HyperV to ESXi
It picks a new disk because of LVM, this is by design. Converter creates a separate virtual disk on the target for each volume group. The EFI partition needs to be a basic volume.
The problem is different - the old mappings have not been fixed. Did the conversion succeed w/o errors? If yes then perhaps there's a bug. Can you upload the log bundle for examination?
Re: Migration of SUSE Linux VMs from HyperV to ESXi
yes, conversion completes successfully with no errors....logs attached.
