As I know the Acronis Home Edition 11 is different from Acronis 11, there should be thread with exact version descriptions for Acronis.
But you have a different option - run the VM and convert it as 'Powered On' source.

vCenter Converter Standalone 6.0.0 build-2716716, running on WinXP SP3 host. When attempting to reconfigure the guest OS, either during conversion of of a Virtual PC VM -> Workstation (or a subsequent configure-only run of the converted VM), I received:
Error: An error occurred during reconfiguration.
and
FAILED: Unable to create '\\.\vstor2-mntapi20-shared-F72AF82A007E0000000000001A000000\$Reconfig$'.
Rebooting and closing all non-essential apps, then rerunning the configure-only job resulted in success.
Some more information here...
I was able to use a Linux rescue disk to boot on the VM and see the drive. This disk has LVM, and if I try to boot it on its own, I get "operating system not found", which seems to indicate to me that it is never getting to GRUB.
I tried removing the virtual disk from the VM and chose to keep the vmdk file, then added a new disk and pointed to this same vmdk file, with no change.
If I just try to do grub-install /dev/sda, I get "/dev/sda does not have any corresponding BIOS drive".
I have attached the output of fdisk -l - forgive the screen caps, I am not able to capture text from the VMWare console window. Not sure what to try next. Thanks.
Hi all,
I really wasn't sure where to post this, hopefully it's ok here - if not please feel free to move.
I'm converting w2k3/w2k8/w2k12 servers to a different VLAN, which requires an IP change on all 3 network cards we have per server. To speed up and bring some standardization and eliminate human error I have a script which renames network cards, add new IP details - this all works great and isn't really the main reason i'm here.
As I mentioned we use 3 network cards, during the conversion process i select "none" for network, meaning once its on the other side we add new network cards, but only after running devcon to remove the previous cards - Which I do to ensure that when the new network cards are added start at "local area connection, local area network connection 2 and local area network connection 3" or for w2k12 "Ethernet, Ethernet 2 and Ethernet 3" within the OS - The script will look for each of these connections, rename and assign the correct IP based on this,
The problem i have and i want to see how others deal with this (or have recommendations), is as follows.
After doing the above we go to "VM > edit settings" and add 3 network cards, please note that the Network Labels that must be in a particular order here and this is where i have problems - If i add all 3 network cards in one go windows seems to randomly assign with becomes the lowest label - i.e. the first card I add in "VM > Edit settings" may not be the first network connection within the OS - The work around is obviously add one network card, assign network label and apply, go back in add second etc etc - but this isn't ideal.
Anyone have any suggestions on how i can ensure the first network card/label added in "VM > Edit Settings" is the lowest network label within the OS?
for clarity, i am asking this because the script i have requires the lowest network connection to be the one assigned in "VM > Edit Settings" to ensure the NIC is renamed correcty, and the correct IP details are applied with netsh commands.
Thanks
B
Try to reconfig only VM. Upload log bundle to check the error.
Can you pls attach the logs - worker and helper ones? Both are in the task log bundle.
Very interesting question despite it's not for this forum, try in ESX and/or VC ones because they are capable for hardware changes of VM including network cards add and remove.
My $0.02: try to configure your networks with sysprep.exe - you need only MAC addresses of cards to configure them.

Attached bundle - thanks.

thanks for posting that detailed information Plamen.
i installed workstation 12 pro on a windows 10 system. the machine had hyper-v installed and so when i ran workstation it said to disable hyper-v. i did that and everything seemed fine. i was able to create a linux vm.
then i decided that i wanted to convert an old vm from hyper-v. i thought that vcenter standalone would help do that so i installed vcenter standalone 6. that didn't appear to be what i needed to do so i decided to uninstall it. the uninstall failed, saying it could not stop the service. i didn't see any converter services running.
i decided to boot into safe mode and see if i could uninstall. i used the msconfig boot tab, checked enable safe mode. when it rebooted, the machine hung for about 10 minutes and then reported a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. then it booted in to regular mode, not safe. i discovered that i couldn't shutdown either. whatever i did ended up waiting about 10 minutes and then restarting in nomral mode. i tried all the other ways to get into safe mode like shift restart, bcdedit, etc. nothing works. i powered the machine down and it boots straight to normal mode.
i tried doing the shift restart reset to restore point. that hangs for 10 minutes and then restarts in normal mode. i tried restoring to a restore point before the vcenter converter install. that just hangs forever.
it's like something is blocking the updates that change the boot config but there is no error. for example bcdedit reports success; but no matter what i do it just boots back into windows 10 normal.
i deleted all the files you mention in your message including the drivers. for the vstor i had to rename it, then power off, then delete it. that didn't help either; still booting into normal mode.
the machine is pretty functional outside of refusing to shutdown or go into safe mode. one other weird symptom is that my usb doesn't seem to be recognizing anything except for my keyboard. other things plugged in don't register at all. that was all working fine before the converter install.
i'd like to do the restore to restore point. however, since i can't figure out any way to get that to happen, i'm considering trying a reset. i'm not sure if that will work either since it seems deterimined to simply restart after waiting 10 minutes.
any ideas on how to get my machine back to normal?
Fred,
Did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the same problem. Multiple hosts, all HP DL360/380's. I actually can successfully convert a Hyper-V machine or two, but some others constantly fail with the same symptoms.
Thanks,
Mike
Please share some details of conversions: where the converter is installed, where the hyperv is placed, etc.
In case of conversions fail (not the ESX restart) - upload log bundle to check.
Hello
This is strange installation you have here - according to the logs all partitions are in an LVM volume group split in 3 logical volumes. This means /boot is a directory, not mounted on its own partition. OTOH the boot loader is GRUB1. AFAIK only GRUB2 can boot from a logical volume. Converter also assumes that and expects a partition number for the boot volume.
Either '/boot' is mounted in an unusual way and not recognized by Converter or the GRUB installed is somewhat capable to boot from LVM. Can you post the content of "fstab" to check that?
As a workaround you may try set <callGrubInstall> to false in "converter-worker.xml" and retry the conversion (restart worker service after changing the config). With some luck will succeed. After that boot the VM from a live CD and install grub manually "grub-install /dev/sda" should do the job.

VMware Converter is a great tool but it has some (documented) limitations.
For example, the number of supported Symantec BESR versions is limited.
Is there any alternate, maybe third party Solution we can try to P2V PCs and servers?

Marius
Hi,
PlateSpin & Double Take tool available but you have to pay for it.
Have a look at this , might help
Hi,
We are using Standalone Converter 6 with ESXi 5.5 Hosts.
We created a V2V job a while ago. Is it possible for us to rerun that job again ?
We cannot find any task to rerun it when we select the task and click the right hand button. Your advice is sought.
Thanks
Find it in the jobs view (not tasks), right click and select 'copy as new'

Hi,
There is no job in the "Job View". Only 1 entry (i.e.last V2V) in the "Task View".
From the web, I learn that we still need to enter credential for both Source and Destination VM & options detail. Is there any advantage of copying Job instead of creating a new one ?
Thanking you in anticipation.
