Re: Error 29163 is still here
Do you have any antivirus program?
You can try to convert your machine with Converter (latest one is 6.0) which is not included in Fusion, this will require some additional effort to ensure open ports.

Re: Error 29163 is still here
Hi, I use microsoft Essentials, no other antivirus software. Microsoft defender is disabled.
My latest version of VM converter is 5.0 .I did hope that the newest version of VMware-FusionPCMigrationAgent-5.1.2-2233062. would do it better to convert the windows 7 machine. I want that with all installed programms to test windows 10 upgrade.
Thanks for reaction. Koos
FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'The operation experienced a network error'
Hi everyone.
I was used VMware Converter Standalone 6.0 to converter server 2003 on Hyper-V to host ESX of vCenter.
Hyper-V have IP : 10.132.2.200
vCenter have IP: 10.132.2.177
Host ESXi have IP : 10.132.2.192
We haven't policy firewall for 3 IP this. All ports are open in Firewall.
But, when I convertering 1% that have error with status : FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'The operation experienced a network error'
So, Can you help me fix case this ?
Best regards.
Re: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'The operation experienced a network error'
Can you provide a log bundle of the failed task?
Re: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'The operation experienced a network error'
Cant convert windows xp machine to a virtual machine
Have gotten a new PC and trying to convert the old one to a virtual machine using the converter program.
The PC I am trying to convert is running Windows XP.
I have tried all the available versions of the converter.
Version 5.1 and 5.5.3 give the error
Version 5.0.1 and earlier versions get the BSOD(Blue screen of death, reboot) when the program is at 1%
Version 6.0 seems to not be available for windows XP
This is running the standalone version.
Re: Cant convert windows xp machine to a virtual machine
Where the vCenter Converter is running ? On Windows Vista or later ? If yes, try run the vCenter Converter using the option "Run As Administrator".
Re: Cant convert windows xp machine to a virtual machine
I am running the standalone package. This is running on the PC running Windows XP
Re: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'The operation experienced a network error'
Hello
can upload the task log bundle? (right click on the failed task and export) The GUI and server logs are not very informative, the worker and agent logs are.

Hello Hongchuong
it really looks like a blocked network communication. You write no firewall is blocking it but let's get into more details. The connection needs to be established from the Hyper-V host (10.132.2.200) to the ESXi host (10.132.2.192) on port 902, as in log lines:

An easy way to try the connectivity is telnet from the Hyper-V host to the ESX host on port 902
I see you have also tried again to destination 10.132.2.191 with the same error. It is possible the Hyper-V firewall is blocking.

Re: convert HV VM as physical or from HV manager
Hello.
Yes, ok thank You. Finaly I got my test conversions.
And, if you dont mind, I wish make little beat of source question. In pointed ealrier topic about
your final post was:Let me give you a brief explanation how scheduled synchronization works: a bitmap driver starts tracking all changed clusters on the disk before the cloning starts. When the time for sync comes, a VSS snapshot is being done on the source volumes, and all the changed clusters are read from > that snapshot and transferred.
You can also instruct Converter to stop some services before the final sync, e.g, SQL server and exchange. Thus there will be no lost data from those services' activity.
There is two points before my question.
First is: As I understand, a job for pass a snapshot is work for one time. Against a complicate method in vMotion technology, when, as we told, for memory transfer uses set of snapshots, each over less in set, and finaly source freezes for a second and destination activates.
Second is: As I know, in example for oracle databases there is important to get syncroneous files in one time, because all datafiles has own identifier of thats called SCN, and it provides of DB consistence. And if they after copying finaly have not equal value in destination, then you cannt startup DB without hard manipulation or cannt startup at all (therefore it called as 'cold backup' and realy many beginners got a big trouble after try recover from cold backup, if it maked in warm state with running DB instance). And I think similar thing should be in most production databases.
And question is (sure, I'm not first, but however): have a place trouble when we do P2V and have running DB on VM (or any other db-like service)? In case of that trouble: have a VMware ability and plans to resolve that?
Re: convert HV VM as physical or from HV manager
Hello
I am not sure I understand your statements. I'll try to answer the way I understand them
- snapshots are not one time. Each incremental synchronization in a conversion job creates a separate VSS snapshot;
- I haven't worked with Oracle but I have worked with MS SQL Server and Informix Dynamic Server. The databases' data reside either on a raw device or in a single file per DB (disregarding logs). The SQL server is one or more services that write to the databases. Whenever stopped gracefully, it keeps the databases in consistent state (I have heard that what I call 'database' is called 'schema' in Oracle and their 'database' is the whole set of 'databases'; however that doesn't invalidate the case of consistency).
- as conclusion - there is no trouble to P2V machines with SQL servers from a consistency point of view, as long as the correct procedure is followed.

Re: convert HV VM as physical or from HV manager
Hello, Plamen.
Yes, this is an exact answer. It is a good news that syncronization during volumes conversion is similar syncronization of memory in vMotion proccess - in set of snapshots. Generaly it is good for us, and for some especial questions I'll learn subjects hard in future by myself. Because they need more deep view inside technology, and I'm realy interested for it.
But if you have couple right url-links on technical describe of P2V proccess (both for Windows and Linux sources), I'll be very grateful.
Thank you a lot!
P.s.: It seems that I would be speak in native Russian for exclude language misunderstanding, but maybe not. And a question is over for now, finaly)
Regards.
Re: convert HV VM as physical or from HV manager
I am glad this has helped
There are a few pages in the user guide that describe the process though it is a bit a birds' eye view. Unfortunately I am not aware of any text that is kind of "Inside VMware Converter". You may search the forum for specific cases. Other sites can also provide valuable know-how.
I am fine with Russian but the forum is in English. I suppose it will be OK to post in both languages.

Plamen
Re: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'The operation experienced a network error'
Dear Plamen !
I was checked to like you guide.
From Hyper-V server I can telnet to IP's ESXi port 902 but can't telnet to IP's vCenter port 902.
So, I can open port 902 on v-Center and Can you guide me ?
Thanks.
Re: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'The operation experienced a network error'
Hello hongchuong
You don't need to open port 902 on the vCenter server.
However there has been a bug related to V2V from Hyper-V with sparse disks, which has the same symptoms.
As a workaround you may try to force file-level cloning (I haven't tested that but hope it will work). You may, e.g, shrink a destination volume a little or change the cluster size to force file-level.

Re: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'The operation experienced a network error'
Dear Plamen !
Yesterday, I was tried to converter a job and it was completed.
Although I wasn't changed any on firewall device and firewall soft on windows.
We can close the ticket for this case.
Thank and best regards.
Re: 2012 R2 support - converter 6.0
This feature seems long overdue. Any idea when it will be added? Some of us are running away from Hyper-V and this is a huge wrinkle.
