Hello
The workaround is this - edit your sshd_config file and set:
PasswordAuthentication yes
PermitRootLogin yes
More seriously - Converter does not support SSH key login, you have to use password.

Hi Srinivasu,
I do have extra space in my datastore, can you explain more detail on how we going to do this ?
Poceh,
I will restart the server this weekend and retry with 5.5 version converter .
To remove /3g switch is not possible as i am not allow to change anything in the physical server.
Apart of this , is there any other way that i can move to VM since my data have been copied finish , only the reconfiguration failed .
If something fails please send me a logs.
Generally after the data is transferred you can reconfigure destination machine without transferring data again.

Please check if any unallocated disk space is available in physical server( which box you want to p2v) as P2V will fail if any unallocated space available until create it as a new volume.
Srini, what you talk about? Just curious.
Please don't distract user with unrelated messages, here conversion is obviously far away from disk creation, so the disk space is nothing linked.
first time i run into this,
Xp image to use in a win7 vm, any help would be huge I'm on a crunched deadline.
You cant reconfigure VM because of:
2015-04-22T11:30:23.547-04:00 [02428 warning 'Default'] ERROR opening boot.ini file boot.ini for reading
Are you sure you select boot & system disk(s) in conversion?
100% this is the 1st of about 30 that i run into this
Could you provide full log bundle? Here is only reconfig task.
Hi,
Just tried to clone Oracle DB server in vsphere client but failure for several times with error 0x80042301.
After Google it should be caused by Oracle VSS.
Then I would tried to follow below link to fix the problem but I couldn't access "Application Data" in Windows 2008 R2.
VMware KB: Disabling specific VSS writers with VMware Tools
Please advice how can I clone Oracle DB server ?
Thanks
Do we have Best Practice links or documents when doing physical to virtual for the following:
- database server (sql server, oracle, if possible other database not mentioned)
- mail server (exchange, lotus notes, other mail servers)
- embedded virtualization (citrix xenserver, xenapp, hyper-v)
thanks!
Hello all,
So we just started using converter for P2V's, its an awesome tool. I noticed that its changing the primary partitions to logical drives. Not a huge problem but if I add space to this logical drive it immediately wants to convert it to a dynamic disk. Dynamic disks is something we normally do not use in our environment. I ran through through converter a few times, is there something I'm missing? We are running the latest version - I will add that this physical server I setup to test converter in our lab.
Before conversion on physical server -
After conversion on VM -
Thanks
Javier
Hi Javier,
Unfortunately this is a long-standing problem in Converter, but it has never been highly prioritized in order to be addressed and fixed. I guess the assumption was that "it doesn't hurt" to have logical partitions. It is the first time I hear this is causing actual problems - added free space at the end cannot be used unless switching to dynamic disks. We should need to revisit this bug again and prioritize it accordingly.
As a workaround I would suggest that you can resize volumes as a part of the conversion process - you can add free space to each volume in the conversion wizard and would not need additional resizing after that. I know it is not a real fix but it might be enough for your case.
Regards,
Ivan
Thank you, very much appreciated. Next release I hope.
Err... don't be too optimistic for the next release :-). In the best case the one after it.
Update on my last post: I was not able to get the newer standalone windows convertor working by copying it over the files on the last bootable iso.
Hi,
I am trying to migrate Windows 2008 Hyper-V server to VMware 5.1 environment. The issue I am having is whenever it reaches to 99% my VMware convertor server gets rebooted. I have tried this around 4 times changes the destination location from D Local drive to another drive, another jump server but no luck, some other Hyper-V servers I can clone successfully but this one particular server having trouble converting. Is there anybody facing similar kind of issue. Please help.
Is there a file lock issue from Hyper-V or something?
VMware convertor version is 5.5
Hyper-V Windows server 2003
Please help.

Could you upload log bundle?
Wow! That's pretty short sighted. Most Cloud platforms require key access.
