Hello,

Situation and goal's description follow below.

The question is if it is possible to achieve to goal using vCenter Converter Standalone.

After short look in Converter's user manual one is not sure if it is possible at all

due all limitations over all setup points, e.g. supported destination amongst others VMware Fusion 2.x, 3.x, and 4.x.

Fusion of 4.x, nor 3.x nor 2.x is available.

Local network:

* physical machine, BIOS, XP Pro 32 Bits on HDD (300GB) formatted to MBR and one system partition with mentioned Windows installation

of 16GB size, connects to lan via Ethernet 1Gb/s. Actually not connected to lan (NIC driver removed) as preparation to conversion.

* Acronis True Image 2009 for Win XP machine available, also its Live-CD

* VMWare Fusion 7.x.x, connects to lan via Ethernet 1Gb/s

* VirtualBox on same physical machine as Fusion, can be installed on Vista physical mentioned below

* Ubuntu family virtual machines under Fusion and VirtualBox

* physical machine, Windows Vista, connects to LAN via WiFi, is not the preferred machine

as used intensively for user's regular tasks.

* a NAS, based on Linux Embedded, does not support virtualization, connects to lan via 1Gb/s Ethernet

The job is to convert the Windows XP from physical to virtual machine.

If yes, by wich Converter's model/mode?

If to study the Converter user manual there are several restrictions which can be critical for the situation and goal above.

The first idea was to make cold conversion, however it can be cumbersome task due to lack of support.
