You need an access to ESX@902 and VC@443 as well as ConverterAgent@8089, there is section in User's Manual with ports 
The 'ManagedDisk' is term describing VMDK file placed on ESX datastorage, in the opposite is the 'HostedDisk' which is VMDK file on other file system, used from Workstation/Player.
