Re: Info required regarding Sparse Disk

I have done p2v in workstation format then uploaded the folder on datastore and register that VM, if I try to power on it throws an error.

 

error:

Module DevicePowerOn power on failed. Unable to create virtual SCSI device for scsi0 0, Failed to open disk scsi0 0  Unsupported and or invalid disk type 7. Did you forget to import the disk first

 

it shows "Sparse" disk hence I m facing this problem as Sparse disk is not supported by ESXi , that format is supported in VMware Workstation..

 

then ran the below command

 

vmkfstools -i oldvmdk newvmdk

 

after that mapped the new vmdk and now I m able to power on the VM.

 

need ur assistance to understand the same.
