Hello Thanks for the reply
I ran the windows converter against a linux box, I understand the connectivity requirements(it failed im working out the error). I'm still hoping there is a standalone solution for linux so as to avoid having to setup a converter on windows and have connectivity to vCenter. It gets complicated in that we have multiple domains, some being more protected then others. If I could just run the converter on a local machine its self and point to a partition to place the vmdk that would work best for us because we can then just copy the vmdk outside and run it. I also ran the converter a windows server in this standalone mode and was hoping for something similar for Linux. I know this is probably asking a lot. The dell technician recommend I try using a product from http://www.acronis.com/ that will supposedly do the job mentioned for linux but I could not quite find the correct product, I will follow up. Also we may have the ability to instantiate a vmware image from tape backup of the linux devices using Dell NetVault but we still are exploring this as well. I guess what I'm asking then is there is probably not a solution in the Dell VMware family to do conversion away from the connectivity to vcenter and a windows instance of the converter 5.5?
Thanks,
